The natural blush of copper varies from a brownish red to the reddish color of a brick. Natural oxidization is caused by exposure to oxygen and reactions to other neighboring elements. These effects are quite normal and thus stimulate the varying color of copper. Copper will naturally change to a verdigris or teal color and can also adopt hues of browns, blacks and reds. Remember, Copper is not a man made product it is a rare metal fashioned by the elements. Click Here to read about Copper History.

TREATMENT AND PROTECTION OF A PATINA FINISH:
A simple wax treatment of a patina finish can encapsulate the finish and protect it from undesired oxidization. One should apply the wax finish when the copper's surface is dry.
We suggest the use of a soft towel for application.

Santa Clara Copper suggests the use of paraffin wax, natural bee's wax, carnauba wax, butcher's wax, car paste wax and numerous other organic wax compounds can be used to protect the coating.

Copper is a naturally hygienic metal that slows down the growth of germs such e-coli (the "burger bug"), MRSA (the hospital "super bug") and legionella.
